Hello everyone, sorry i don't get on much but work and husband take up most of my time, and now Minky, she has not been herself recently so i took he to the vets thinking it was not much maybe a cold but no she has very badly inflammed gums and the vet took blood and sent off. He told us to expect the worst as it was going to be one of 3 virus's and 2 where terminal, anyway the bloods came back negative but now Minky has started throwing up in the evenings, it is really strange as she has breakfast and lunch and no trouble then in the evening give her supper and 2 hours later she is throwing it all back up and none of it has been chewed, but i know at the moment she cannot chew as her gums are so bad. The vet says once she has completed her tablets i have to take her back, which is wednesday and he thinks she will have to have all of her teeth pulled except for the incisors. He says he has never seen such bad gum disease in a cat so young (2). At the moment one by one her teeth are falling out but it is causing her so much pain, so i think the best thing would be to pull her teeth and see if she improves but i just don't know. My poor baby.

Poor Minky it must be such a worry for you. One of the foster cats from the UKRCC (Lace)went for a routine check up from the vet and a similar thing happened to her, her gums were really badly infected, it turned out to have been caused by the calici virus. She went to a specialist dentist and he sorted it. It might be worth having a look on the site (it's down at the moment)to read about her she was only two at the time. I do hope she gets better really soon big healing hugs for Minky

Re: Minky is poorly
Minky was tested for the calici virus and it came back negative, the vet is totally stumped, he has given her anti-inflammerty drops now to try and get her swollen gums down, he has said he will have to remove some of her teeth as they have moved and this is what is stopping her from closing her mouth now. It will be a long process as he will remove 2 teeth at a time and let them heal before removing any more to see how she gets on.
She is playing again but is still being sick in the evening every now and then. I just have to keep an eye on her and make sure she is not suffering to much. I am glad i am only going away at the end of september as it is going to take a while before she is ok.

Re: Minky is poorly
Well i have been back and forth to the vets and Minky now has to have x-rays of her jaw and then teeth taken out and the bill is going to be £800- i was so shocked when they told me that i had to sit down, thank goodness for pet insurance, i am now waiting to find out if the insurance is going to pay out before going ahead with the x-rays. I am with M&S but they have just changed their under writter's so they do not know if the new company will take on the problem.

poor minky
what a nightmare, I am sure they HAVE to honour your claim. They are still taking your payments!!!! Also I would demand a swift decision, it's not merchandise they're dealing with, meanwhile poor Minky still has her problem teeth!! I am with Virgin insurance but have never made a claim. My sister was with one company and it took about 4 months to get £1500 back. I hope it gets sorted out quickly, fingers crossed for you, let us know how you and Minky get on
